IGP Kashmir calls for enhanced security, surveillance for upcoming festivals, Amarnath Yatra
Srinagar, June 10: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Monday called for stringent surveillance and security measures to maintain law and order in the region ahead of the upcoming festivals and the Amarnath Yatra.
In a security review meeting held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, the IGP Kashmir stressed the importance of using advanced technology like drones and CCTV cameras, and directed officers to establish round-the-clock checkpoints.
The meeting, attended by Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and other senior PCR Kashmir officers, focused on reviewing the current security scenario and preparations for the forthcoming events.
The District Police chiefs provided detailed briefings on the security measures in place.
SSP Ganderbal gave a comprehensive update on the preparations for the Mela Kheer Bhawani and Amarnath Yatra.
The SSP outlined the meticulous security arrangements planned for the Mela Kheer Bhawani, which would be held at various temples across Kashmir, including the prominent temple in district Ganderbal.
Discussions covered key aspects such as law and order, crowd management, traffic control, and ensuring the overall safety of devotees.
In addition to the Mela Kheer Bhawani, security arrangements for the peaceful observance of Eid-ul-Adha were also reviewed.
The IGP emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of anti-social and anti-national elements, urging officers to utilise drones and CCTV cameras to maintain surveillance.
He also instructed the establishment of 24x7 checkpoints and cutoff points to enhance security.
IGP Birdi reiterated the importance of strengthening the anti-terrorist grid by generating specific intelligence and intensifying cordon-and-search operations (CASOs) and anti-terrorist activities across all districts.
The officers were directed to ensure a robust and proactive approach to counter any potential threats.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolve to ensure the peaceful conduct of all upcoming events.
The IGP expressed confidence in the preparedness of the security forces and reiterated the commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region during the festivals and Amarnath Yatra.
The security review comes in the wake of heightened concerns over potential disruptions and threats during major gatherings.
The authorities are determined to provide a secure environment for all attendees, ensuring that the events proceed without any incidents.
