IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar holds 38th convocation
Srinagar, Mar 5: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Srinagar held its 38th convocation on Wednesday at Tagore Hall.
In his address Regional Director IGNOU Srinagar Dr A H Rizvi congratulated the students who were awarded their degrees at the occasion.
"We are grateful to have them as part of our academic community," he said.
He further said that with the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, the academic horizons of students have broadened.
"NEP 2020 is the right path for the students to become entrepreneurs than becoming job seekers," he said.
On the occasion, 11792 learners from various academic programmes were eligible for receiving degrees on the convocation.
He said that over the years, they have been able to collaborate with NIELIT and Composite Regional Centre Srinagar, develop Industry linkages, Establishment a placement cell, study centre for the M.Sc. Science-based programmes in Central University of Kashmir, to provide the quality education and to boost the students for carrying forward their education in nation building.
Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner Education Department Shantmanu along with Vice Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) Prof. Muhammad Mubin awarded awarded degrees to graduates as guest of honour.
The main convocation function of IGNOU was celebrated at New Delhi headquarters along with at 39 Regional Centres across the country.
The inaugural live session of the main convocation function was attended by the participants of the convocation function at Srinagar. Prof. (Dr).
Speaking at the occasion Shantmanu said the distance between University and students has been over with the introduction of Open University like IGNOU.
"This is the beauty of open and distance mode of education," Shantmanu said.
VC CUS Prof. Mobin in his address highlighted the importance of distance and online education in the present times.
"In this regard IGNOU has played an important role in providing the educational services to the remote, rural and far-flung areas of the country and to the other parts of the world," he said.
On the occasion it was informed that the the enrollment of students at IGNOU regional centre Srinagar has increased from 1000 to 45788 in 2024, since the establishment of the centre.
"The regional centre offers courses in more than 300 programmes," regional director informed at the occasion.
He said that Srinagar centre was a part of prestigious e-VidyaBharti Project, of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), GoI, which offers Tele-education services through internet-based web portals to 19 African Countries.
'A Swayam Prabha studio has been set up in IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar for providing the channel based counselling in Urdu language for undergraduate programmes through the channel no. 13," he said.
He said various online sessions were organised for the learners with disabilities.
"The centre has been made as the nodal regional centre for some programmes for which the counseling for the students from all over India has been conducted here," he said.
The regional director said that for the convenience of the students from remote, rural and far flung areas, new examination centres were set up at Government Degree College (GDC) Kreeri, GDC Langate, GDC Uri, GDC Handwara, GDC Qazigund, GDC Dooru, GDC DH Pora and Mattan.
