IFFCO welcomes Bill to establish India's first cooperative university

Srinagar, Maar 29: IFFCO, the world's leading cooperative, has welcomed the passing of the Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU) Bill, 2025 by the Lok Sabha on March 26, 2025. The bill establishes India's first university dedicated to cooperative education and research.

While introducing the bill, Minister of Cooperation and Home Affairs Amit Shah emphasized that this initiative would strengthen rural economies, foster self-employment ecosystems, enhance social inclusion, and set new standards in cooperative innovation and research. "The whole country will get new cooperative leadership inspired by the spirit of cooperation and equipped with modern education," Shah stated.

Dr Udai Shanker Awasthi, Managing Director of IFFCO, called the bill "a historic step for the pioneering development of cooperatives" that will "bring a new revolution in the cooperative sector." He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Shah for taking "a very big step for Indian agriculture, farmers and rural development" that will "further strengthen our villages."

Dr Awasthi highlighted how sector-specific schools nationwide would benefit fertilizer cooperatives, particularly IFFCO, by developing a new generation of professionals in fertilizer cooperative management and marketing. He noted that short-term courses for existing cooperative employees represent "a game-changer and a step which was never done at this scale."

IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating it would nurture "seeds for the next generation of cooperative leadership" within a system "run by the cooperatives for the cooperatives."
