IEI, GCC host workshop on traffic transformation in Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 17: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre, in collaboration with the Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC), organised a high-impact one-day workshop titled “Transforming Traffic, Ensuring Safety.” With the theme “Addressing Traffic Challenges and Road Safety:
A Comprehensive Approach for Srinagar City and Beyond,” the workshop brought together engineers, academics, architects, civic officials, and public policy experts focused on reshaping Kashmir’s traffic landscape.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri served as Chief Guest, underscoring the need for integrated solutions to the region’s mobility concerns. Former Advisor to the Governor of J&K, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, presided as Guest of Honour, while Lateef uz Zaman Deva, Vice-Chairman of GCC delivered the welcome address and Iftikhar Ahmad Hakim, Chairman of IEI J&K State Centre, delivered the valedictory address.
The technical session featured presentations from Aaqib Zahoor (NIT Srinagar), Suhaib Naqashbandi (Srinagar Smart City Ltd.), Irfan Ahmad Reshi, Fiaz Fazili (GCC), Shafat Qazi (BQE Software, USA), and Mohammad Shafi Mir (NIT Srinagar), covering topics from smart city initiatives to global traffic management practices.
Distinguished guests including the Vice-Chairman of JKLCMA, SSP Traffic Police Srinagar, along with former Chief Engineers and various stakeholders participated in the event, which concluded with a panel discussion. Key recommendations will be submitted to relevant government departments for implementation consideration.
