Srinagar, Oct 17: The Institute of Business and Policy Research (IBPR), SKUAST-Kashmir, organised a one-day Awareness-cum- Interaction Program in the tribal village of Chattergul, Tehsil Kangan, under the DST-SEED funded project “Inclusion of Indigenous Survival Skills in Livelihood Security of Tribal Community in Kashmir, India.”The program aimed to document indigenous livelihood practices and explore ways to integrate them into sustainable and inclusive development models, said a press release.

Dr. Omar Fayaz Khan (Principal Investigator) led the initiative with active participation from scientists, students, and local stakeholders.Dr. Khan emphasized the role of community-driven development in ensuring sustainable livelihoods for tribal families. highlighted the goals of the project, emphasizing the importance of community-driven development. Participants were encouraged to share insights about their traditional livelihood practices, income sources, and challenges faced. These inputs will contribute to designing an adaptive and sustainable development model tailored to the community needs.

Dr. Meghna, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, and Maqbool, (Forest Deptt.) coordinated local participation and field logistics. The team interacted with community members to assess their socio-economic conditions and identify potential livelihood opportunities.During the visit, special emphasis was placed on promoting collective enterprises based on MAPs, Dairy & other traditional cultural experiences. The project envisions providing technical and other facilitation support to registered groups to enhance income opportunities while preserving cultural identity.The program marked a significant step toward empowering tribal communities through sustainable livelihood interventions in the ecologically rich region of Chattergul, Ganderbal.
