IAF marks 93rd anniversary with grand parade at Hindan Air Base
New Delhi, Oct 8: The 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was celebrated with full military splendour at Air Force Station Hindan today.
The event was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the Chiefs of the Army and Naval Staff, and was reviewed by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh.
The ceremony began with the marching in of the President’s Colours, symbolising unity and pride.
Three Mi-17 1V helicopters, flying in the ‘Dhwaj’ formation, presented an aerial salute carrying the National Flag, IAF Flag, and Operation Sindoor Flag.
The parade, commanded by Group Captain Chetan Pradeep Deshpande, featured a stirring march past and an impressive performance by the Air Warrior Drill Team, cheered by former Air Chiefs and senior officers in attendance.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh presented 97 medals and six Unit Citations to distinguished Air Warriors for their exceptional service.
In his address, he lauded the IAF’s transformation into the fourth-largest air force in the world, and praised its stellar performance in Operation Sindoor, underscoring its precision and speed in modern warfare.
He reiterated the IAF’s faith in indigenous weapon systems and its doctrine of “Train like we fight”, highlighting the force’s adaptability and innovation.
The venue also featured an Innovation Arena, showcasing creative solutions developed by Air Warriors, and a special exhibit recounting the IAF’s challenges and triumphs over the past year.
The highlight of the celebrations was the Heritage Flight aerial display, featuring historic aircraft such as the Tiger Moth, HT-2, and Harvard, paying tribute to the IAF’s rich legacy.
The traditional flypast and aerial display will be held in Guwahati on November 9, 2025.
The static display included frontline aircraft and systems such as the Rafale, Su-30 MKI, C-17 Globemaster, Apache, C-130J Super Hercules, ALH Mk-III, Akash Missile System, and Rohini radar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to all Air Warriors and their families, saying on X: “Greetings to all the courageous Air Warriors and their families on Air Force Day. The Indian Air Force epitomises bravery, discipline and precision. They have played a vital role in safeguarding our skies, including during the most challenging situations. Their role during natural calamities is also very commendable. Their commitment, professionalism and indomitable spirit continue to make every Indian proud.”
Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan also conveyed his wishes, noting that the IAF exemplifies dedication, discipline, and service to the nation.
In a social media post, he highlighted the role of Air Warriors in protecting Indian skies, providing aid during natural disasters, and executing key missions like Operation Sindoor.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude for their professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment.
