IAF joins France for ‘Garuda 25’ air exercise

New Delhi, Nov 15: The Indian Air Force has begun participation in the eighth edition of the bilateral air exercise Garuda 25 with the French Air and Space Force at Mont-de-Marsan, France, scheduled from November 16 to 27, 2025.

The IAF contingent, which reached France on November 10, is fielding Su-30MKI fighter jets for the drills. A C-17 Globemaster III fleet is supporting the induction and de-induction phases, while IL-78 tankers are extending the range and endurance of the fighters through air-to-air refuelling.

The exercise will see IAF Su-30MKIs operate alongside French multirole aircraft in complex simulated scenarios involving air-to-air combat, air defence missions and joint strike operations. The drills aim to sharpen operational tactics, enhance interoperability and strengthen cooperation between the two air forces. Garuda 25 also facilitates professional exchanges, allowing both sides to share operational knowledge and best practices. The IAF said its participation reflects India’s continued commitment to building strong partnerships through bilateral and multilateral air exercises.
