Srinagar, April 04: An Indian Air Force (IAF) Apache helicopter executed an emergency landing in Ladakh during an operational training exercise on Wednesday.

The IAF attributed the incident to the challenges posed by the region's rugged terrain and high altitude, reported NDTV.

Despite sustaining damage, both pilots onboard the helicopter were safely recovered to the nearest airbase.

The IAF has launched a Court of Inquiry to ascertain the precise cause of the emergency landing.

Under a contract signed with the United States in September 2015, the IAF acquired 22 of these advanced helicopters valued at ₹13,952 crore. Additionally, the Indian Army is slated to receive six Apache helicopters under a separate agreement inked in February 2020, valued at ₹5,691 crore.

Manufactured by the American aerospace giant Boeing, the Apache is renowned as a state-of-the-art multi-role combat helicopter and remains a crucial asset for the US Army.
