Ramban, Oct 15: One person died and four others were injured in four separate road accidents between Ramban to Banihal on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH).

Police said the road accidents occurred at Kelamorh, Ramban. Sherbibi and Nachlana on 40 kilometers of road stretch between Ramban and Banihal sector of the highway.

Police sources said on Tuesday at about 6 am, an apple laden rashly driven truck bearing registration number HR56A-6880 fell down into deep gorge after its driver lost control on his vehicle in Sherbibi area of Banihal . The driver died on the spot.

They said after hectic efforts the body of the deceased driver was retrieved from the gorge and shifted to the mortuary of the Sub District Hospital Banihal.

Police identified the deceased driver as Harvinder Singh son of Gyan Singh resident of 2/180 Chakki Wali Gali, Ali Grami Mandi, Gurudwara road Saharanpur, UP. They said all the consignment of apples was also destroyed. They said traffic movement was not affected due to this accident.

Police have registered a case FIR, number161 of 2024 under section 281/106,at Police Station Banihal.

They said another accident involving three vehicles occurred at Nachlana area at around 10 am, in which two persons sustained injuries. Police said due to the accident both side traffic was halted for a few hours.

They said a truck bearing registration number RJ19GF-0298 en route to Jammu collided with the truck bearing registration number JK13C-1574 in the middle of the road at Nachlana area of Ramsu. The drivers of both the vehicles sustained injuries. Both were shifted to nearby Army MI Room by Army personnel where after being provided the medical aid both were shifted to District Hospital Ramban for specialised treatment.

They said due to the accident both sides of traffic were halted. They said cranes were summoned and both the loaded trucks were removed from the two lane road stretch at Nachlana of National Highway

Police identified the injured drivers as Ridmal Khan,son of Akhey Khan, resident of Hopardi Phaladi, Jodhpur,Rajistan and Shabir Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Rehman,resident of Wachi, District Shopian,Kashmir.

They said a parked Army vehicle also suffered damages at Nachlana. However no one was injured there.

A case FIR, number 116 of 2024 under section 279/337, IPC has been registered at Police Station Ramsu.

In another accident a rashly driven truck bearing registration number HR46D-7314, en route to Jammu loaded with apples rolled down from road to another road (up tube) due to which the driver of the vehicle was injured. He was shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment.

Police identified the injured driver as Rafi Mohammad son of Sadar Din, resident of Pathankot, Punjab.

Police said another truck bearing Registration number HP-6498 en route to Jammu in rashly and negligently when reached at Kela Morh, area of Ramban on NH-44 driver of the vehicle couldn't control the speed of vehicle resulting vehicle rolled down from road approximately 80/100 feet and driver of the vehicle got injured who was shifted to DH Ramban for treatment by pedestrian etc.

Police identified the injured driver as Harvinder Singh son of Darshan Singh resident of Hushyar tehsil Mukhta Hoshiarpur Punjab.

SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said two separate cases FIR No 254 and 255 of 2024 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Ramban for further investigations.

Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police National Highway Ramban Rohit Baskotra said both side traffic restarted around 1 pm, after both damaged vehicles were removed from the road at Nachlana.

He appealed to the drivers and vehicle operators to drive with caution while travelling on National Highway.
