Hunt begins for new VC Cluster University Srinagar
Srinagar, Apr 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has started the process for the appointment of new Vice Chancellor for Cluster University (CU) Srinagar.
Following the constitution of a search committee to draw the panel of candidates, the Registrar CU Srinagar has issued a notification inviting applications from the eligible candidates for the VC post.
Notably, the three year term of the incumbent VC of CU Srinagar Professor (Dr) Qayyum Husain will expire in April this year. Professor (Dr) Qayyum Husain was appointed VC Cluster University Srinagar on April 1 of 2021 for a three-year term.
As per the notification issued, the aspiring candidates for the post of VC should be academic as well as administrative head besides a person of highest level of academic credentials, administrative competence, integrity, morals and institutional commitment.
"The candidate should be a visionary with proven leadership qualities as well as teaching and research credentials. He/she should have outstanding academic record throughout and a minimum of 10 years' experience as a Professor in a University system or in an equivalent position in reputed research and/or academic / administrative organisation," the notification reads.
A top official said the committee has been already constituted by the government for which the two members have been nominated by the university Council while the member, who acts as a Chairman, is appointed by the Chancellor of the university.
"The government has preferred not to make the names of the committee members public to ensure complete transparency and fairness in the selection process. Otherwise people from different quarters approach the committee members with recommendations which defeats the purpose of the selection process," the official said.
As per the notification, the candidate should not be more than 65 years of age as on the closing date of receipt of applications of this advertisement.
"The post carries a pay of Rs. 2,10,000 (Fixed) per month with a special allowance of Rs.11,250 and other usual allowances," it reads.
The terms and conditions of the services will be those as set forth in the Act, Statutes and Regulations of the University, it reads.
"Appointment will be made from a panel of candidates recommended by the Committee constituted under the provisions of the Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act, 2016," the notification reads.
The candidates have been asked to submit their applications along with the detailed resume (in pdf format only) by or before April 20 of 2024.
"NoC from the parent organisation must also reach the office of the undersigned by or before the last date of submission of application. No hard copy shall be accepted," it reads.
