Humaira Shafi packs a powerful punch, winning double gold

Baramulla, Feb 23: Humaira Shafi, a 20-year-old martial Arts athlete from the Langate area of Kupwara district has left an indelible mark in the world of combat sports by bagging two gold medals in the last two weeks.

On Friday, she exhibited her talent in the Muay Thai championship held at the indoor stadium Khoja Bagh Baramulla and won a gold medal in the 60 kg weight category after defeating her three opponents. She was representing Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla in the championship. The Muay Thai Championship was organised by the Muay Thai Association where Humaira stole the show while emerging victorious with her exceptional performance.

Last week she bagged a gold medal in the KUDO championship as well.

Humaira Shafi is presently pursuing her graduation at GDC Boys Baramulla and has carved a niche for herself in the world of Martial Arts.

Her journey from the north Langate area of Kupwara district to the fierce arenas of national and state-level championships has depicted her determination, grit, and passion for the combative sport.

Humaira Shafi, a black belt in Karate, has showcased her talent on the national stage by participating in the Samdo championship.

Drawing inspiration from Tajamul Islam, the young martial arts sensation from Bandipora district, Humaira started her Martial Arts training some four years ago when she was in class 11th.

She joined the Champion Cross Martial Arts Academy in Langate and was trained by her coach, Jahangir Malik.

"I was inspired by Tajamul Islam, and that is the reason I joined Martial Arts Academy in Langate," Humaira told Greater Kashmir.

"My family support played a crucial role in my sports career. This really helped me to pursue my passion for martial arts," she said.

She has done her schooling at Uqab Public School (UPS) Langate and laid the foundation for her sports career, where she excelled in Kho Kho at the national level.

"My sports career started at UPS as I was interested in sports from an early age," she said.

Besides recent achievements, Humaira has earned two gold medals in Wushu championships at the state level during previous years. She is now setting her sights higher as she dreams to earn fame at the International level.

"I have worked very hard to get myself trained in martial arts. I am dreaming of participating at the International level. I really aspire to represent Jammu and Kashmir on the global stage," she said.
