Srinagar, Oct 16: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar inaugurated a three-day event titled “Craft Bazar – Artisan Awareness Workshop and Craft Demonstration” at the University of Kashmir.

The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Registrar University of Kashmir Syed Azhar, Joint Director NIFT Srinagar, faculty members, students and several dignitaries from both institutions, said a press release.

In her inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor lauded the efforts of NIFT Srinagar in organizing such a meaningful event, describing the craftsmanship of Kashmiri artisans as having “no match in the world.” She appreciated NIFT Srinagar for creating a platform that celebrates and preserves Kashmir’s rich craft heritage through awareness, education, and innovation. Prof. Khan requested the management team of NIFT Srinagar to collaborate with the University of Kashmir to jointly provide every possible platform and support for artisans.

She emphasised that the University of Kashmir is fully committed to collaborating with NIFT in initiatives that promote the region’s crafts and artisans. She further announced that the University would take initiatives to explore how exhibitions could be organised in different parts of the country to showcase the artistic excellence of Kashmiri crafts.

Prof. Khan urged NIFT Srinagar to help the University in setting up stalls and exhibitions during major festivals such as Eid and other cultural occasions, enabling artisans to market their work directly and gain economic empowerment.
