Houseboat sinks in Jhelum at Rajbagh

Srinagar, Feb 27: A residential houseboat sank in river Jhelum near Rajbagh area here.

Officials said that the incident happened on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Officials said that a team of Fire and Emergency Services and SDRF launched a rescue operation and evacuated the inmates to a safe place. The victims said that they were left to fend for themselves without shelter amid bone-chilling cold.

“The incident happened at around 3 am. We had a narrow escape. We tried our best to get out some of the household items but lost everything including cash and household items,” said a family member. They said in addition their bedding and other blankets were also damaged. “We appeal to the government and people to help us so that we don’t suffer from the cold,” he said.
