Srinagar, Nov 11: In the wake of arms recovery from a hospital locker in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has ordered all faculty, staff, and students to label their personal lockers by Friday, November 14. The administration has been directed to ensure there are no unutilised lockers in the hospital premises.

The Administrator of Associated Hospitals issued the administrative overhaul, presumably aimed at enhancing security today. GMC Srinagar has many hospitals associated with it, including Children Hospital, Lal Ded Hospital,  Bone and Joint Hospital,  SMHS Hospital,  Super Specialty Hospital, and Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences.

This order comes on the heels of arms recovery from a doctor's locker at GMC Anantnag. The move is in the direction of heightened vigilance in Kashmir's medical colleges. The circular mandates that every locker across GMC Srinagar's teaching blocks, administrative areas, and all the associated hospitals of GMC be clearly marked with the owner's name, designation, and employee code.

"It is impressed upon all the faculty members, heads of departments, paramedical staff, and students to personally identify their lockers and label them," the order states.

Inspections by SMHS Hospital's Medical Superintendent, Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) on each floor, and GMC's Estates-cum-Transport Officer has been mandated. The administration has tied locker handovers to Section Officers, Estates, and Accounts departments, who have been barred from issuing Last Pay Certificates (LPCs), No Objection Certificates (NOCs), or service books to transferring employees until their lockers are officially surrendered.
