Homes, orchards damaged in Sopore
Sopore, May 19: Strong windstorms swept through north Kashmir on Sunday evening, affecting areas including Rafiabad, Sopore, Zaingeer, and surrounding villages.
The storm left a trail of destruction, toppling signboards, smashing window panes, and uprooting trees. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
Teams of district officials have been deployed to assess the extent of the damage.
The videos, shared on various social media platforms, show devastating visuals of residential houses and other structures due to windstorms.
In the Sher Colony and Tarzoo areas of Sopore, rooftops of several houses were damaged while dozens of uprooted trees fell on residential houses.
The storm also caused extensive damage to standing crops and apple orchards, mostly in the Zaingeer belt including Hardishiva, Mundji, Saidpora Duroo, Warpora, Janwara, Bomai, and other villages.
Locals of various localities of Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad said that strong winds followed by rains and hailstorm uprooted dozens of apple and willow trees and damaged rooftops of several residential houses.
