Rajouri, May 26:  Conducting the polling was not an easy task for the staff at Hill Kaka polling station in Poonch's Surankote sub division. Votes were cast yesterday there as the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency went to polls.

For the polling the polling party had to cross river for dozens of times and travers tough mountain ridges in a trek that was almost 35 kms long. Despite the challenges, the polling staff alongwith magistrates and security personnel held voting at the polling station to strengthen democracy.

Hill Kaka is the remotest polling station in Pir Panjal region and is lone polling station that falls under P2 category that accounts for any such polling station where a team has to be dispatched one day in advance than other teams.

All other polling stations of Poonch district were in P1 category as teams were dispatched only one day in advance and were received on the same day of voting.

However, the polling team of Hill Kaka polling station was dispatched on Thursday and it was received on Sunday as compared with other teams that were dispatched on Friday and received in late evening hours on Saturday.

Located in tough mountain ridges of Surankote sub division, the village Hill Kaka falls under Surankote (88) assembly constituency of Poonch district and the polling station of Hill Kaka village was established in Government Middle School Hill Kaka while the number of voters registered in the polling station for 2024 Lok Sabha polls were 377.

The polling team of Hill Kaka polling station, with polling station serial number 77 in Surankote assembly constituency, comprised of polling officials team that included Presiding Officer, P1, P2, Guide and others while dozens of security force personnel of CAPF, BSF, Police were also part of election party and their numbers was high as the polling station falls in Hyper Sensitive category.

Hill-Kaka village was known for “Operation Sarp Vinash” that was carried out in 2003 by security forces in the area after large scale movement and presence of terrorists in the area.
