Highway remains open

Ramban, June 1: The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger light-medium vehicles and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Kashmir on Saturday.

However, traffic movement remains slow as usual between the Ramban -Banihal sector of the National Highway.

Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the National Highway remained open but the traffic movement remained slow due to poor road surface conditions besides 90-degree curves near the tunnel, T5, Panthyal and on foot movement of nomad families with their herds of livestock and single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehad –Cafeteria, Panthyal Nachlana, Gangroo, Shalgari, Kishtwari Pathar at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors.

They said despite slow traffic movement hundreds of light medium and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri and Banihal tunnels till late Saturday evening.

Traffic authorities said, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light and medium passenger vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway on Sunday.

However, they said heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply after assessing traffic and road conditions towards Jammu from Qazigund Kashmir on Sunday.
