Higher reaches receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains
Srinagar, Nov 30: Almost a month-long dry spell in J&K ended on Thursday with higher reaches experiencing fresh snowfall and plains getting lashed with rains.
Also, the minimum temperatures showed an upward trend while the Meteorological Department predicted cloudy weather during the next 24 hours.
The MeT officials here said that snowfall was recorded at Gulmarg ski resort in Baramulla district, Doodpathri in Budgam, Sonamarg in Ganderbal and other upper reaches of Kashmir.
“The snowfall over the higher reaches and rainfall started during Wednesday night,” officials said. “The Gulmarg ski resort received 2 cm of snowfall. Doodpathi and Sonamag received light rains and snowfall.”
Reports of snowfall were also received from Keran, Machil, Gurez and some other hilly areas.
The MeT officials said that the night temperature across Kashmir showed an upward trend while Gulmarg was the only place where mercury settled below the freezing point last night.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of 5.3 degrees Celsius while Qazigund recorded a low of 5 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam health resort in Anantnag district recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Gulmarg settled at minus 1 degree Celsius while the temperatures in Qazigund settled at 5 degrees Celsius.
