High-level committee clears promotion of 6 JKPS officers as DIGs

Srinagar, Dec 26: In a significant development, the high-powered committee constituted by the government has cleared the names of six Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

A top official in the J&K Home Department said the high powered committee convened a meeting on Wednesday and cleared the name of these officers for their promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.

"Their names have been cleared and the file will be submitted to the office of J&K Lieutenant Governor. It will take a few weeks to issue formal orders," the official said.

He said following the issuance of promotion orders of these six officers there will be a reshuffle of officers in Police.

The official said the Committee is headed by J&K Chief Secretary Attal Dulloo while Principal Secretary Home Department Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Special Secretary Home department are its members.

The official said the six JKPS officers whose names have been cleared are incumbent Imtiyaz Hussain who is presently SSP Srinagar, Suhail Munawar who is SSP Crime Branch and SSP Tahir Sajad Bhat.

The other three JKPS officers whose names have been cleared for promotion as DIG are Ramesh Angral, Mohammed Irshad and Kulbir Singh.

"The names of two officers, as per the seniority, are in line for elevation as IGP. Out of the two officers, the file of one officer is clear while the file of the other officer was sent back. But the file will get clearance within a few days," the official of the Home department said.

The official said it will take around a month to issue formal orders as the file has to be sent to the J&K Lieutenant Governor.

"There are other formalities to be completed as well," the official said.
