The 29-year-old from Baramulla's old town has mapped over 105 alpine lakes since 2021, but his real achievement isn't counted in destinations reached. It's measured in the growing army of young explorers following in his footsteps.

"So far the journey has been exciting," says Khan, understating his transformation from solo explorer to leader of 'Baramulla Trip N Track,' a 50-strong band of adventurers reshaping Kashmir's outdoor scene.

What began as one man's passion for nature has exploded into a youth movement. Khan's team has become the valley's go-to group for alpine exploration, specialising in discovering hidden gems across Jammu and Kashmir's vast wilderness. Their crown jewel? The 'Kashmir Great Lakes' expedition—a challenging trek connecting more than 15 lakes from Sonawari to Kangan in Ganderbal district. It's now the region's longest established trekking route.

Among Khan's most daring achievements stands his exploration of 'Baraf Sar,' the highest alpine lake in Jammu and Kashmir, nestled in the pristine heights of Sonmarg. His conquest of 'Sunset Peak,' reaching up to 4,745 meters in the Pir Panjal range, further cements his reputation as one of Kashmir's most ambitious explorers.

Khan's team employs satellite mapping to chart their courses into untouched alpine territory. Working alongside the J&K Forest Department, they've helped identify 85 counter-tracking routes, making the wilderness more accessible while preserving its raw beauty. The department's support has been crucial, providing expertise and assistance in establishing safe, sustainable trekking paths.

"Local youths are showing much more interest in mountaineering adventure," Khan observes, watching his initiative transform into a health movement. These expeditions aren't just about reaching summits—they're about connecting young Kashmiris with their natural heritage. Each trek offers participants not only health benefits but also a profound connection with the region's stunning landscapes.

The serenity of these alpine locations has become a magnet for adventurers from across India and beyond. Khan's expert navigation of these remote terrains offers visitors an unparalleled experience of Kashmir's pristine wilderness. His dedication to unveiling these hidden treasures has created a ripple effect in the region's adventure tourism sector.

As Kashmir's adventure tourism gains momentum, Khan's vision extends beyond personal achievements. Each expedition opens new routes, not just on mountains, but to economic opportunities for local communities.

The untapped potential of these alpine wonders continues to draw more enthusiasts, creating a sustainable model for adventure tourism in the region.

His message to Kashmir's youth remains clear: the path to adventure lies right in their backyard. And with every trek, Khan proves that sometimes the biggest journeys begin with a single step in your hometown. As he continues his exploration, each new discovery reinforces his belief that these majestic landscapes offer more than just scenic beauty—they provide a pathway to personal transformation and community development.
