Heavy rains disrupt I-Day celebrations in north Kashmir's Baramulla
Baramulla, Aug 15: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds on Thursday disrupted the Independence Day celebrations even as it impacted daily life across the Baramulla town in north Kashmir.
The inclement weather also disrupted the Independence Day celebrations at various locations within the town.
Tents set up for the events were uprooted, and chairs installed for the audience were scattered hundreds of meters away by the strong winds, leading to a temporary halt in the proceedings.
In a video, men at the designated venue were seen shouting to clear the fallen tables, as they believed there were people trapped under them.
Several trees along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway-from the District Police Line to the DC office- were uprooted, causing blockages and posing risks to commuters.
A vehicle was also damaged after a tree fell on its roof in the Baramulla town. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
In addition to these disruptions, the electricity distribution system in Baramulla was heavily impacted. Power outages were reported from across the town as a result of the weather conditions.
