Heavy rains cut-off several areas in Poonch’s Mendhar

Poonch, Jul  20: Heavy rains and flash floods once again caused havoc in several areas of border sub division Mendhar in Poonch with Chhatral and adjoining areas got disconnected from sub division headquarter as newly built culvert got inundated in river water.

Meanwhile,Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today visited Balakote area of Mendhar Sub-Division to assess the damages caused by recent heavy rains. The torrential downpour had triggered landslides, washed away portions of land and damaged several houses in the area, said an official press release.

During the visit, he interacted with the local residents and took on-spot feedback regarding the extent of the damages.

Rana emphasised that restoration and construction activities in the affected areas will be undertaken in a planned and sustainable manner, ensuring that the local landscape and ecological balance are preserved.

Notably, heavy rains and flash floods once again caused havoc in several areas of border sub division Mendhar in Poonch with Chhatral and adjoining areas got disconnected from sub division headquarter as newly built culvert got inundated in river water.

The footbridge at Mohallah Dhera on Chhatral road has been severely damaged once again cutting off thousands of residents from the rest of areas.

Locals complained of flood-related destruction from Mohallah Hattian, Dhera, Hill, Qazian Chhatral and Kasba Kalaban, leaving locals without access to essential services.
