Heavy rainfall continues to affect life of people across Rajouri
Rajouri, July 2: Moderate to heavy rainfall across Rajouri district areas continue to affect life in border district of Rajouri. Loss of property has occurred in many areas due to problem of water logging during the last two days.
Rainfall started in the areas on Sunday late evening and is going on at regular intervals. Very heavy rainfall has been received at three different times that include Sunday late evening, Monday morning and in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Locals stated that besides normal rainfall in remaining period, very heavy rainfall took place during these three times that badly affected normal life and in some areas of Rajouri like Kotranka, Muradpur, Thandikassi, the river bodies were seen flowing at scary levels due to this.
The heavy rainfall has also caused widespread damages at many places due to problem of water logging.
The reports of damage during last two days have been received from many places where people are alleging that ongoing work of highway upgradation is the cause of these losses.
In Phalyana locality of Rajouri town, as many as 10 houses suffered damage of property after overflowing rainwater entered in these houses damaging household property . A local masjid also witnessed partial damage of property due to over flowing water.
The people from the locality said that there is no proper drainage system in the area that caused this problem while ongoing highway upgradition work further elevated the loss as water from highway stretch also flowed downwards that too in large scale.
Locals further informed that two cars of families residing in this area also suffered damage after boundary walls collapse over them due to water logging problem.
Besides, in Alpha Gate locality also, several shops and residential houses got submerged with at least three to five feet of water that entered the locality after heavy rainfall.
Local said that in the ongoing Highway upgradation work, the concerned executive agency as constructed highwayside rains in forward and backward stretch but the particular area of Alpha Gate was left due to which the rainwater from adjoining localities entered this area and created problem of water logging.
They said that many people also got stuck in shops and faced problems in running outwards as several feet of water had accumulate inside these shops.
In Chatyari village area of Rajouri also, locals said, water from highway side drains entered residential areas and damaged property in terms of household items as free flow of water got blocked due to ongoing work of bridge construction.
