Heavy Rainfall Alert: Authorities issue advisory for Rajouri, Poonch
Poonch, Aug 23: The District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA), Rajouri and Poonch, have issued a public advisory following inputs from the Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority, warning of heavy rainfall in several districts of the Union Territory.
According to the advisory, several districts including Rajouri and Poonch may witness intense rainfall over the next 48 hours, up to August 25, 2025.
The advisory highlights the possibility of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, in addition to waterlogging in low-lying areas and rising water levels in rivers and local streams.
Officials have urged residents, particularly those living near water bodies, to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing into or camping near flooded streams and rivers.
The district administration have also advised the livestock owners to keep their animals and vehicles away from water sources to minimize risks.
The advisory lists several including avoid unnecessary travel, especially to hilly and landslide-prone areas, stay away from water bodies, fast-flowing streams, and riverbanks, suspend trekking, hiking, and adventure activities until weather improves, avoid taking shelter under trees or electric poles during thunderstorms, keep emergency lights, food, and essentials ready in case of power outages.
Residents in landslide-prone areas have been urged to remain alert and immediately report any unusual ground movement or cracks to the authorities, the official advisory mentions.
