Heaps of cow dung on roads pesters Preng residents
Huge piles of cow dung and garbage dumped on roadsides in different villages of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district present a grim picture. Residents of the Preng area in Kangan complained that some people have polluted the roads by dumping heaps of garbage and cow dung on roadsides. Locals said that garbage has piled up, and even cow dung can be seen piled up on the roads as the concerned authorities have failed to maintain and upkeep the cleanliness of these roads in the area. The locals said they brought this issue to the notice of the concerned department several times, but no action has been taken to date.
According to locals of these areas, many households are putting heaps of garbage, cow dung and other waste material on the roadside, posing a threat to the community.
Residents of Herpor Preng have appealed to the Rural Development Department and District Administration to take necessary steps in this regard. “The presence of cow-dung on roads has become a common sight in our village Preng, causing inconvenience to pedestrians, motorists, and commuters, adding that cow dung is regularly found on the road, creating unsanitary conditions and unpleasant odour,” a local resident, Imran Ahmad said. He said this affects not only the aesthetic appeal of the area but also poses health risks to citizens, especially during rainy seasons when the cow dung gets mixed with water and spreads. “We have already raised complaints in our Tehsil and BDO offices, but nobody takes action against these culprits who threw cow dung on the road.
