Health camp for senior citizens held in remote area of Anantnag’s Brariangan
Srinagar, Feb 11: A free health camp for senior citizens was conducted in the far-flung hilly area of Brariangan, Anantnag, under the aegis of the JK Bank Heart Clinic on Wheels. The camp was organised by the Moul Mouj Foundation and Ummeed Foundation, with support from GK Labs and Humanity – The Ultimate Faith.
A total of 168 senior citizens received free consultations, on-the-spot non-invasive investigations, and medicines. Awareness sessions were also held for patients and attendants focusing on preventive health and medication adherence.
Nearly 50% of known cases of diabetes and hypertension were found uncontrolled, and several individuals were newly diagnosed with diabetes. Generalised body pains were common, suggestive of iron deficiency (anaemia) and Vitamin D deficiency. Despite the hilly region, Vitamin D deficiency was prevalent due to limited sun exposure during winters, covered clothing, and dietary gaps. On-the-spot cardiac evaluations were conducted where needed, and heart-related conditions were appropriately managed. Medicines were optimised as per standard treatment guidelines.
Dr Zubair Saleem, Senior Geriatric Consultant, while thanking Dr Jehangir Bakshi, Director Health Services Kashmir, emphasised reducing salt intake, strict adherence to medicines, balanced nutrition, safe sunlight exposure, and regular health screening.
As part of routine outreach, the Moul Mouj Foundation identified marginalised ageing parents for Lifetime Free Medical Assistance. Attendants appreciated the initiative, stating that small lifestyle changes can significantly improve health outcomes. The camp highlighted the importance of accessible healthcare services in remote areas.
