HC quashes PSA detention of 4 persons

Srinagar, Mar 22: The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has ordered immediate release of 4 persons while quashing their detention under Public Safety Act(PSA).

Allowing their separately filed habeas corpus petitions, a bench of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul quashed detention orders of Rashid Habib Zargar of Tikker Kupwara, Amir Ahmad Rather of Ashmuji Kulgam, Danish Bashir Dar of Shah Colony, Parimpora Srinagar, and Suhail Shabir Ganie alias Imran of Chattergam, Nowgam.

While Zargar was booked in terms of an order dated 27.6.2022, passed by District Magistrate Kupwara, Rather was detained by virtue of an order passed by District Magistrate Kulgam on April 8, 2022.

Dar was taken into preventive custody on the basis of an order dated 8.3.2023 passed by DM Srinagar while Ganie was booked in terms of the detention order passed by District Magistrate Srinagar on August 30, 2022 .

While quashing their detention orders, the court directed authorities to release the detainees from preventive custody forthwith provided they are not required in any other cases.
