HC quashes PSA detention of 4 persons

Srinagar, Feb 26: The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has ordered immediate release of four persons while quashing their detention under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Deciding their separately filed habeas corpus petitions, a bench of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul quashed detention orders against Ghowhar Ahmad Bhat of Cheermarg Zainapora, Tehsil Zainapora, District Shopian, Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Nildong Batapora, District Shopian, Nadeem Ayoub Itoo of Mohammadpora District Kulgam and Arshid Ahmad Mir of Brakpora Anantnag District Anantnag.

While Bhat was detained in terms of order dated 28 June 2022, passed by District Magistrate, Shopian under PSA, Irshad was taken in preventive custody by the order dated 20 June 2022, passed by District Magistrate, Shopian. Itoo was booked by virtue of an order dated 11 June 2022, passed by District Magistrate, Kulgam while Mir was detained on the basis of an order dated 1.9.2022 passed by District Magistrate Anantnag.

The Court directed the authorities to set the detainees at liberty forthwith provided they were not required in other cases.
