Kupwara, Dec 23: Residents of Gufbal Shuloora in Kralpora tehsil of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Thursday complained about lack of basic amenities in their village resulting in severe hardships to the inhabitants.

Residents said that they have been deprived of health services since decades. “Our village comprises more than 200 households and for a small ailment patients are forced to approach sub district hospital Kralpora by commuting several kilometers. We have been demanding a health sub centre in our locality so that the patients may get respite and they need not have to travel a long distance but every dispensation turned deaf ears towards our pleas,” said a local.

Residents said that they are being provided unfiltered and contaminated water from nallah Kahmil and the concerned department is watching as mute spectator.

“We always remain apprehensive about our health because of impure and contaminated water. We have approached the Jal Shakti department several times for construction of a filtration plant but to no avail,” said another local.

“Erratic power cuts have literally turned our life hell. We don’t know why there is so much injustice to us in terms of unsubstantial electricity,” said a student of the area. Locals also complained about decaying electric wooden poles which pose a threat to the inhabitants.

Residents said that due to unabated extraction of sand and gravel in nallah Kahmil near Tilwanpora its configuration has drastically changed which pose threat of flood whenever there is rain. They demanded a protection wall on both sides of nallah to thwart any chance of flood.

Meanwhile, the residents have sought immediate intervention of District administration Kupwara for timely redressal of their grievances.
