Handwara-Wader road in shambles, people demand macadamization

Kupwara, Feb 10: The 18 km Handwara-Wader road has caused immense problems for commuters due to its dilapidated conditions. The residents said that the road has developed huge potholes on multiple spots causing immense hardships for the commuters. "The concerned department has taken us for a ride thereby compelling us to register a protest. For the last one year we have been requesting them to undertake repairs on the road but to no avail," said a local resident.

Even transporters of the area are anguished over the pathetic condition of this road. "Our vehicles get damaged day in and day out due to huge potholes on this road. Even the travel which usually should take twenty minutes takes fifty minutes," said a local cab driver.

The residents said that over two dozen villages were suffering due to the bad condition of the Handwara-Wader road but authorities seem to be doing nothing with regard to the road. "This road has been macadamized a decade ago and since then it has never been a priority for the concerned authorities with the result it has developed huge potholes making things worse for the residents," Syed Imtiyaz, a local resident from Rajpora Rajwar area of Handwara told Greater Kashmir. The residents have now requested Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone to take a call on this important issue so that the hardships being faced by over twenty thousand people may end.
