Srinagar, July 26: The Department of Handicrafts today organised a one-day awareness camp at Dak Bungalow Chijhama under the Rafiabad Handicrafts Block, drawing enthusiastic participation from a large number of artisans and weavers across the region.

The event was aimed at spreading awareness about various government initiatives and welfare schemes for the artisan community. It witnessed the presence of key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Shabir Ahmad Raina (JKAS), Assistant Director Handicrafts Baramulla Mohammad Yousuf Lone, CDI Faculty Dr. Mehraj-u-Din Bhat, Handloom Training Officer Mohammad Ismail, and Assistant Handicrafts Training Officers from District Baramulla.

Artisans and weavers were briefed on several financial incentives, training opportunities, and support mechanisms available through the department and allied agencies. Representatives from banks, RSETI, and other line departments were also present to assist and guide participants.

Kashmir’s handicrafts, particularly those from Baramulla, are globally renowned for their fine craftsmanship, ranging from hand-knotted carpets and intricate woodwork to traditional handloom products. Events like this awareness camp are seen as vital platforms for empowering the artisan community and preserving the region’s rich craft heritage.
