New Delhi, Nov 25: Hamas revealed a delay in the planned release of additional Israeli hostages on the second day of the truce.  The decision, attributed to alleged breaches in the truce deal, was outlined in a statement from the Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing. The allegations primarily canter around Israel's purported violation of terms related to aid deliveries to northern Gaza.

Originally, a group of up to 13 hostages was expected to be released on Saturday. However, disputes over the number of aid lorries reaching northern Gaza have led to a standoff. The disagreement revolves around the number of aid shipments entering the region as part of the truce deal.

UNRWA confirmed on Friday that aid had reached northern Gaza for the first time in a month, with a total of 137 lorries entering Gaza the previous day, as reported by the UN. In contrast, the Palestinian Red Crescent claimed that 196 lorries crossed Rafah.

Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) countered the claims, asserting that the UN was delivering over 50 lorries containing humanitarian aid, including food, water, shelter, and medical supplies. This aid was purportedly destined for the northern Gaza Strip and shelters awaiting evacuation.

Hamas, alleging non-compliance with the ceasefire terms, has tied the postponement of today's hostage release to these grievances. The situation underscores the delicate nature of the truce and the challenges in maintaining it. Qatar mediators however continue to mediate for the implementation of the truce and release of hostages and detainees.
