GVEI’s Media Fest-2025 puts spotlight on present age journalism, social media use
Srinagar, Oct 13: A day-long media fest-2025 organised at Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) on Monday put a spotlight on present age journalism and the judicious use of social media.
Besides, the fest served as a platform for the students from different schools to showcase their Art in the form of films and digital Art.
During the fest, short documentaries and stories, besides a skit were presented before the audiences, wherein the students showcase their talent in different streams.
Speaking at the occasion, Head Department of Journalism, Government College for Women MA Road Srinagar, Dr. Suhail Ahmad cautioned the young students about the volume of information they produce and consume.
“In the contemporary period, media literacy is very important not for the media students only but for all of us. As environmental science is important for conservation of the environment, Media literacy is equally important,” he said.
He congratulated the GVEI management for introducing Media Studies as one of the subjects for the students and cautioned the students about content they are fed.
“The way we remain cautious about our diet, similarly we have to remain cautious about media diet because the overflow of news doesn’t affect the health but it disturbs the mind,” he said.
He said the masses need to be conscious about what is being consumed.
“Media literacy tells us what to read and how to read and what to watch. We should be able to observe who is making the content and the type of content they are fed with,” he said.
He said earlier two common terms were used in media-media consumed and media produced. “But now we have a new term called Prosumer in which we consume and produce simultaneously,” he said.
During the event, the students from Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS) Pampore, Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (HSS) Soura and Government Girls HSS presented different films and digital Art.
On the occasion, an official from Cyber Police Kashmir also spoke about the use of social media and how the misuse of fake accounts.
“Users have a misconception that once they move any picture or video from gallery to trash bin and later delete it permanently, they think it vanished. But cyber Police has such advanced applications through which we can retain the trashed pictures and videos,” he said.
On the occasion, CEO, Associated Media Tarique Bhat congratulated the GVEI management for introducing media studies as a subject and hosting media fest.
He also spoke about the present age journalism and the overflow of information.
Earlier, Principal GVEI presented a welcome address and briefed the audience about the motive behind hosting the media fest.
Later, chairman GVEI Muhammad Yousuf Wani in his address said the school remains at the forefront to provide a platform to the students to exhibit their talent in sports, film making and digital Art.
“My teachers and management are working with dedication to hone the talent of our students. We will continue to host such events so that students get an opportunity to showcase their talent,” he said.
