Jammu, Jan 5: The Parkash Parv (birthday celebration) of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji, the 10th Guru and founder of Khalsa Panth, was celebrated with religious fervour and devotion all across Jammu today.

In Jammu city, the main function was held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand Kour Nagar. The celebration, which drew a large number of devotees from diverse backgrounds, was marked by religious discourses and “Shabad Kirtan.”

Local Ragi Jathas, including Bhai Rattan Singhji and Bhai Karan Singh ji both Hazuri Ragis of Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev and Pracharak Bhai Surjit Singh ji, along with prominent Ragis and Pracharaks from outside Jammu and Kashmir, performed “Shabad Kirtan” emphasizing life’s higher values and communal harmony.

Sikh Sangat of Jammu was enamoured by prominent Ragi Jatha of Bhai Jaskaran Singh of Patiala, Bhai Sukhjit Singh Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar and renowned Sikh preacher Sarabjit Singh Dhunda of Gurmat Gian Missionary College Ludhiana who recited “Shabad Kirtan” and “Katha” about how Guru Gobind Singh ji made profound sacrifices for society.

Langar was also served to the devotees.

Vice president DGPC Jammu Balvinder Singh highlighted significant Sikh issues like political reservation to the community; exclusion of Sikh youth of valley from SRO-425; non-inclusion of a Sikh member in JKPSC; exclusion of Punjabi language from JKUT Official Bill, 2020 etc. Singh further underscored a perceived disconnect between the administration’s decisions and the mandate given by the Sikh community through the DGPC election.

DGPC, in line with its commitment, honoured Sikh students excelling in various fields, presenting mementoes to those who achieved academic excellence; excelled in sports and other spheres and felicitated by Government of India or other international organization.
