Gurez road opens for traffic

Bandipora, Apr 6: The 85-kilometer Bandipora-Gurez road was thrown open for traffic on Saturday, officials said.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that the traffic was allowed on the road from Saturday morning.

He said that the road was thrown open on priority ahead of Eid and also keeping in consideration the stranded passengers who had been stuck in Gurez since the last snowfall.

On Saturday, the officials said that the traffic was allowed to ply both ways from Gurez and Bandipora.

“First we allowed stranded passenger vehicles to ply from Gurez to Bandipora and by late afternoon, traffic was allowed from Bandipora to Gurez,” Ahmad said.

He said that from Sunday onwards one-way traffic would be allowed on the road as the conditions were still slippery.

The official said that the vehicles with antiskid chains were being allowed to cross the Trafic Control Points (TCPs) by cut-off time from Tragbal and Kanzalwan.
