Gurez road likely to reopen today after a month
Bandipora, 29 March: The 85-kilometer Bandipora-Gurez road is likely to re-open for traffic today, nearly after a month-long closure.
Officials confirmed to Greater Kashmir that the BRO, which maintains the road, has almost completed the snow clearance operations, and will allow traffic to ply on the road from today onwards.
The sub divisional magistrate Gurez (SDM) Mukhtar Ahamd told Greater Kashmir that the road is "expected to open in the afternoon."
He added, "If the road [is] opened today, it will be one way traffic from Bandipora to Gurez."
The officer said, "anti-skid chains" for vehicles will be necessary" and that the "traffic will be allowed only up to 4pm."
"Avinash Kumar, Operational Commanding Officer (OCO) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), informed Greater Kashmir that the road's opening was conditional."
He said the operation is "still [in] progress," adding the road opening "will completely depend upon avalanches and snow height coming in the way."
