Gurez land of issues: MP Er Rashid
Bandipora, Oct 13: Member Parliament (MP) north Kashmir, Er Rashid on Sunday said Gurez is a land of issues.
He said that Gurez, the valley on the line of control, lacks development.
"Gurez does not have electricity. Apart from centrally located Dawar rest of the valley still depends of DG generated electricity supply for limited hours," he added.
He said the valley had been forgotten. However it has lately gained attraction with increased tourist arrivals.
Rashid made these assertions while on one-day visit to the valley. He also criticised saying despite of its power project in Gurez it provides minimal jobs locals.
He also said the dam site poses a threat to children causing a concern among families living nearby.
The MP was criticised the reducing the status of Sub District hospital (SDH) Gurez to Community Health Centre (CHC) and questioned the development strategy of incumbent governors administration .
Drawing attention towards the "defunct gynecology department," which lacks doctors and radiologist for ultrasonography, Rashid said he was informed that pregnant women are forced to shift to Bandipora or Srinagar hospital for surgeries.
"Pregnant women requiring surgery cannot avail the facility here. People here told me several deaths of pregnant ladies have occurred on Razdan Top while pregnant women being shifted to outside hospitals. I feel no hesitation had Indian army not been stationed here situation would have been far worse," MP added.
