Gurez-Bandipora Road to open for 1-way traffic today

Bandipora, Apr 20: The authorities would open the Gurez - Bandipora road for one-way traffic on Sunday.

The 85-km road to Gurez Valley was temporarily closed after the recent snowfall on Razdan Top.

It was followed by landslides hitting the road near the Kishanganga dam site, officials said. “A huge rock slide hit the road due to incessant rains for the past three to four days,” SDM Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad said.

He said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which looks at the upkeep of the road cleared the slide by blasting a huge rock in the middle of the road.

“The road has been cleared now,” the SDM said.

He said following the green signal by the BRO, essential and stranded traffic was allowed to ply on Saturday afternoon.

“From Sunday, we will allow one-way traffic to ply on the road,” the SDM said.

He said that as the weather improves and the road is declared safe, normal traffic will be allowed very soon.

Meanwhile, BRO officials stationed in the district said that they cleared snow near Razdan Top and Rani Mode on the Gurez-Bandipora road to make it commutable.

They also confirmed that landslides which had hit the road were cleared by blasting them off.
