Gunfight in Kupwara-Bandipora forests, operation on

Srinagar, Nov 12: A massive search operation was launched by the joint forces of the Indian Army and J&K Police in the Nagmarg area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after the terrorists  in the area resorted to indiscriminate firing at the security forces.

A top official said that after a brief exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists , there was a complete lull and a massive search operation was launched to locate the terrorists.

An official said that the operation was launched in the Nagmarg forest area which is the boundary between the Kupwara and Bandipora district.

The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said that a joint operation was launched by the Army and J&K Police in Nagmarg, Bandipora on Tuesday following a specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists.

“Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Our troops retaliated effectively,” Chinar Corps wrote on its official X handle. “Operation is in progress.”

The anti-terrorist operation was launched throughout the day to nab the terrorists.

This was the fifth gunfight that erupted in north Kashmir and the seventh in Kashmir since November 1.

As many as eight terrorists  were killed in six encounters in north, south, and central Kashmir.

The back-to-back gunfights between the security forces and terrorists  raised concerns about the violence-related incidents.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi said, “The security agencies keep track of the inputs they receive about the movement of terrorists in any area. And we strike them at the proper time. All the operations launched in the past few days were based on information.”
