Ganderbal, Oct 23: Residents of Gund block in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are facing growing difficulties as the Block Development Office (BDO) remains without an officer, leaving official work in limbo.

Sources said the previous BDO was transferred almost two weeks ago, but no replacement has been posted so far. Locals said the absence of a BDO has caused immense inconvenience, with pending files and approvals piling up in the office.

Ghulam Rasool, a resident of the area, said, “The government transferred the BDO recently, but we have no information on whether an official has been given additional charge. Numerous files in the office require the BDO’s approval, and the delay is affecting the people directly. We urge the authorities to post a new BDO immediately so that public services are not hampered.”

Another resident added, “Essential schemes and welfare programmes are on hold because of the vacant position. People coming from remote villages are forced to travel repeatedly to get their work done.”

Residents warned that continued delay in posting a BDO could worsen the situation, further affecting routine development work and public grievances in the block.

Residents have appealed to the government to expedite the posting of a new BDO, stressing that prolonged vacancies are disrupting routine development work and delaying essential public services.
