Srinagar, Dec 18: Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district shivered at minus 8 degrees Celsius while there was a slight increase in minimum temperatures in parts of Kashmir on Monday and the Meteorological Department (MeT) predicted mainly dry and cold weather in J&K till December 22.

The MeT officials said that on December 23, the weather was expected to be generally cloudy with the possibility of light snow over isolated higher reaches.

They said that the weather was expected to be generally dry from December 24 to 28.

“Overall there is no significant weather activity till December 28,” the MeT officials said. “Ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8 degrees Celsius against minus 4.8 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was 3.2 degrees Celsius below normal at the resort,” the MeT officials said.

They said that the minimum temperature in Srinagar was 0.5 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 0.5 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius above normal.

The MeT officials said that Pahalgam in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 5.8 degrees Celsius against minus 1.5 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1.4 degrees Celsius below at the health resort in south Kashmir.

They said Kokernag in the same district recorded a minimum of 1.1 degrees Celsius against minus 0.8 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 1.7 degrees Celsius for the place.

The MeT officials said that the mercury recorded in Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, settled at 0.8 degrees Celsius against 0 degrees Celsius the previous night while the minimum temperature was 1.6 degrees Celsius above at the place.

They said that Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of 2.2 degrees Celsius against 1.1 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 0.2 degrees Celsius above normal.

The MeT officials said that Jammu recorded a minimum of 6.1 degrees Celsius against 7.1 degrees Celsius the previous night, and it was below normal by 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded 3.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 1.7 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
