Gulmarg Avalanche: 1 skier killed, 7 other rescued including guide, rescue operation over

Srinagar, Feb 22: A skier has been killed and seven others rescued including a local tourist guide after an avalanche hit Khilan Marg on Afarwat Peak in famous ski-destination Gulmarg on Thursday afternoon, an official said.

The official said that an avalanche hit Khilan Marg, trapping inside at least seven foreign skiers along with a local guide. “Soon after, a massive rescue operation was launched at the site, which has so far resulted in killing of a Russian female skier and rescue of seven others,” the official said adding “the rescue operation has bee called off.”

Earlier chopper and a chair lift had been pressed into service to trace out the missing skiers.
