Initially, Manpreet promised to send relatives to guide the baraat, but as hours passed, no one showed up. By 5 pm, the groom's frustration grew as Manpreet's phone was turned off, forcing the groom and his family to file a police complaint.

Deepak, as per The Indian Express, told the police that Manpreet had introduced herself as a lawyer from Ferozepur.

He further told the police that he had transferred Rs 50,000 to her after she said she needed it for wedding expenses.
