The religious decree comes amidst large-scale and widespread meat supplies in rotten condition being recovered from across Kashmir.

The suspicious meat packages being confiscated and recovered after being dumped have also given rise to concerns over the status of the meat as per Islamic slaughter requirements and its hygiene and safety.

The meat, which, as per authorities, is part of the supplies to restaurants here, has created public furore and panic.

The Grand Mufti thanked the people for their support and stressed the need for continued vigilance to ensure compliance with Islamic laws regarding food.

The Grand Mufti urged the administration to take proactive measures to end illegal meat trade and ensure transparency and quality in the supply chain.

The Fatwa document advises people to avoid taking momos and calls for purchasing kebabs, dressed chicken, and other meat products only from verified sources.

“Animals must be slaughtered according to Halal guidelines, and people must ensure that,” the Grand Mufti said.

He warned people against buying meat or meat-based products from vendors who use suspicious supplies.

The Grand Mufti suggested that the Public Safety Act (PSA) be invoked against people involved in objectionable sourcing of meat.

He also urged that a checkpost be established, with honest officials, to ensure all the edibles entering J&K are fit for consumption.
