Srinagar, Nov 21: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday said that government schools were second to none and urged parents not to get impressed with the huge buildings of the private schools.

Senior Abdullah participated in the enrollment drive at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Sonwar Srinagar and showered praises on the head of the school and the entire staff.

"This school is located adjacent to my residence and I have been watching its performance over the last many years. I congratulate all those kids who are studying here. The education standards of this school are impressive which always gets reflected in the results as well," Farooq Abdullah said.

He said the parents should not get impressed with the huge buildings of the private schools.

"All those schools with huge buildings cannot compete with Sonwar school," he said.

He further urged the parents to enroll their kids in the Girls Higher Secondary School Sonwar.

"Your kids will excel in academics as the staff here is dedicated who are mentoring the students in a proper manner," he said.

He further congratulated the head of the school and staff for maintaining high standards of education in the school.

Notably, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has kickstarted a massive enrollment drive in wake of the commencement of new academic session in schools.

Earlier, Director School Education Kashmir Naseer Ahmad Wani participated in a massive enrollment drive in Budgam school.

At Sonwar, the enrollment drive was organised by Principal Higher Secondary School Sonwar Sabia Qayoom.
