Govt schools in Srinagar without permanent buildings: NC MLA Salman Sagar
Srinagar, Sept 30: National Conference Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Hazratbal constituency Salman Sagar Tuesday said that majority of the government schools, particularly in Srinagar city, are yet to have their permanent campuses.
Talking to Greater Kashmir on the sidelines of a mega sports event held at Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) here, Salman Sagar said the government schools do not have proper classrooms for students to take their routine classes comfortably.
“Government schools, mostly in the city, do not have their permanent buildings yet. The majority of the schools are operating from rented rooms which are in a dilapidated condition,” he said.
Referring to his compliments given to the private school (GVEI) for hosting mega sports events, Salman Sagar said the students in government schools do not have classrooms to take their routine classes comfortably.
“I do not want to politicize the issue or praise my government or the past regimes but being an MLA of the ruling party, I hope that we will be able to fill the infrastructural gaps in the next four years,” he said.
He said that the education sector was lagging behind in various aspects.
“But our chief minister Omar Abdullah, being a sports enthusiast and a fitness freak, definitely understands it, and I hope we will see positive results in terms of development of sports infrastructure and playgrounds in government schools,” Salman Sagar said.
He said the government will make it effort to see the positive results in the coming years, both in government and private schools across Jammu and Kashmir.
As already reported by this newspaper, the majority of the schools, particularly in Srinagar city, lack basic infrastructure, and most of them are operating from shabby rented rooms.
The majority of the schools lack the facility of a playground and other basic facilities as the schools are located in the congested areas of the city.
