Govt missing on ground: Sajad Lone
Kupwara, Jul 11: Peoples Conference (PC) President and MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone Friday castigated Omar Abdullah led government for its alleged inaction on ground.
Lone was talking to media at his Handwara residence after concluding a four-day tour of Handwara constituency. He said that he visited multiple villages across Handwara and found that the situation on ground was grim, marked by crumbling infrastructure, lack of basic amenities, and growing public displeasure.
"Lack of drinking water, irrigation facilities, and basic healthcare are being witnessed almost in every rural village which is unacceptable in this modern era. I visited many villages and found choas everywhere. I must acknowledge that people are angry and justifiably so because they are going through enduring hardships," said MLA Handwara.
To a question, he said that the MLA was just a facilitator between government and people and the real power lies with the Chief Minister and his council of ministers. "They have already drowned themselves now they are supposed to drown all of us because people have been abandoned with no water to drink, no development and no governance," he said.
Talking about the worsening state of agriculture and horticulture sectors, PC President said that mismanagement and policy neglect have worsened the condition of farmers. "During my tour I came across several villages where crops have been badly affected due to lack of irrigation facilities," he said.
To a question about relocation of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara, he raised serious concern over the long-pending issue, saying the failure to finalize land and the misuse of sanctioned funds reflect complete administrative failure. "Despite formation of multiple committees, there was no headway in the project, rather it has been reduced to a political football, with no real progress," he said.
Lone said that National Conference MLA's won't be able to move in their constituencies without proper security because people will make them accountable as they were suffering badly.
He reiterated that the Peoples Conference will continue to raise issues being faced by people. "We are committed to defend the rights and dignity of the people of Handwara and Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
