Bandipora, Sep 05: In a heartfelt and unprecedented gesture, Govt Middle School (GMS) Onagam invited retired teachers from the village, as well as former staff members who have worked in the institution, to celebrate Teachers Day. The event was a unique and touching tribute to the educators who have contributed to the community over the years.

The celebration brought together generations of teachers and students, creating an atmosphere of reflection, gratitude, and mutual respect. The school honoured its legacy by recognising the dedication and contributions of those who helped shape the educational foundation of the village.

Ghulam Ahmad Zargar, a veteran teacher from Bandipora district, expressed his joy at being part of the occasion. “We are so overwhelmed to be here. It’s such a great pleasure to be with the teachers who were once our students,” he said. He further added that the invitation extended to the retired teachers was a rare and thoughtful gesture, acknowledging the significant efforts of those who laid the groundwork for the school’s success.

“This is truly one of a kind. Inviting retired teachers from the community and appreciating their efforts shows great respect for our profession.”

Headmaster of GMS Onagam, Javid Ahmad Bhat, emphasised the importance of honouring teachers who shape future generations. “Teachers are more than educators—they are the mentors and guides of society,” he remarked.

“By inviting our former teachers to celebrate this day with us, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the impact they have made on our lives. Society needs to appreciate the role of teachers, for they are the real heroes who help shape the future.”

Bhat also underscored the importance of recognising teachers’ contributions to the community. “Through this event, we hope to inspire others to understand the value of teachers and the pivotal role they play in the development of individuals and society as a whole.”

The event was not only about reminiscing and celebrating the past, but also about engaging with the present and future. The students of GMS Onagam prepared a variety of cultural programs in honor of the occasion, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm. One of the highlights was the interaction between the students and the guest teachers.

Uzma Altaf, a class 7 student, expressed her excitement about meeting the former teachers. “It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to interact with the teachers who were once the mentors of our own teachers,” she said. This connection across generations emphasised the lasting impact that teachers have on the community.

Similarly, Abrar Irshad, a class 8 student, was inspired by the day’s events, saying, “Teaching is a noble profession, and when I grow up, I want to become a teacher.”

As part of the celebration, the students also prepared personalised cards for the guests, a thoughtful gesture that demonstrated their appreciation for the teachers. In addition, the current teaching staff presented gifts to the retired teachers as tokens of gratitude. Outstanding students were recognised with books and children’s magazines to encourage their continued academic achievements.

The non-teaching staff of the school were also honoured during the event. The teachers presented them with gifts, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the smooth functioning of the institution.
