Kangan, Dec 7: A government school in Kangan of Ganderbal district is functioning amid space crunch for last decade.
The Government High School Surfraw falling in education zone Hariganiwan in Ganderbal district is operating from an old two room building. Besides a few makeshift tin sheds too have been made to accommodate the students in it.
Against the enrolment of nearly 300 students from class 6th to class 10th, the school’s infrastructure is woefully inadequate. The school has only few rooms to accommodate students of five classes The lack of adequate accommodation is causing a lot of inconvenience to the students. Locals said that the school was upgraded to high school level in 2013. However, the authorities failed to upgrade its facilities including its infrastructure and the staff. They said that the school has still the staff as of a middle school.
Official sources said that the school has near about 300 students enrolled and the staff are managing these students from class 6th to 10th in two rooms and few makeshift tin sheds. “Such a large number of students confined in such a small space can turn the dream of quality into a nightmare,” locals said.
