Government quarter damaged in fire incident at Jawahar Nagar
Srinagar, Jan 28: A government quarter was damaged today in a fire incident at Jawahar Nagar.
The incident occurred on Tuesday which damaged the quarter. A police officer was injured in the incident.
An official of the Fire and Emergency Department said the fire erupted from the second floor of the quarter, which was occupied by a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The police officer sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
“We received information about the incident at 10:18 am and soon rushed our units to douse off the flames. It was a double-storey apartment, and the top floor and attic portion was damaged in the fire. The fire was brought under control in time and was prevented from spreading into other structures,” said an official, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The officials said that the adjacent quarter at the site of the incident was also damaged.
“The other quarter sustained indirect damage; however, the prompt action ensured that the fire was contained in time,” the officials said.
